The elementary school Valentine’s Day parties are next week, so we are getting our crafts and snacks ready. This year, I’m volunteering for my daughter’s 5th grade class. We decided to go with an emoji theme, and came up with some DIY tutorials for both cupcakes and bookmarks.
The big sister of one of the girls in the class is the super talented Molly from Simply Sweet Desserts. I asked her if she had any ideas for emoji snacks, and in no time at all, she sent me this adorable video! Check out her instagram feed – she posts some amazing photos and videos of all of her sweets.
The craft is hard, because by 5th grade they are capable of a lot, but are also tired of all of the picture frames and heart insects they’ve done since kindergarten. We decided to try bookmarks, and the put an emoji spin on them.
They are surprisingly easy to make. The only hard part is cutting out the tiny pieces for the faces. If the kids are younger, they can just use markers to draw them on.
TIP: When you are trimming from squares to circles, don’t trim everything – just the corners. You need the two folded sides to be intact so the bookmarks don’t fall apart.
